**California:** Police have formally filed charges against 32-year-old Anila Baby in the Santa Clara County Superior Court, Department 23, in connection with a double murder case that has shocked Silicon Valley and the Malayali community abroad. Anila faces two counts of murder under California Penal Code Section 187 over the deaths of two women in San Jose and Milpitas on August 28, 2026. According to the prosecution’s filing, a knife was allegedly used as a deadly weapon in one killing, while Anila’s Toyota SUV was allegedly used as a deadly weapon in the other. The prosecution has described the alleged crimes as extremely brutal and planned.

According to information released by police, the events began at a house on Linda Vista Street in San Jose on the morning of August 28. A witness reportedly saw an unexpected visitor arrive at the residence at around 10:37 a.m. Police said phone-location data and Flock camera records placed Anila’s blue Toyota Highlander SUV near the house at that time.

The first victim was found dead at the residence at around 1:53 p.m. According to investigators, she had suffered serious injuries to her head and body. Police reportedly found evidence suggesting that she had been strangled and that a major struggle had taken place inside the house. Investigators also said there had been an attempt to wipe away blood stains in an effort to destroy evidence.

The CCTV footage from the house covering the time of the alleged murder had reportedly been deliberately deleted. However, an image of a shoe lying near the doorstep remained in the camera footage. The mobile phone of the deceased woman was also missing from the house.

According to the case presented by the prosecution, Anila then went to the Mill Creek apartment complex on Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas, where Anila and the second victim lived. At around 12:01 p.m., the second victim was reportedly walking toward Anila’s car with a bag, smiling and appearing happy, when Anila allegedly drove the vehicle directly toward her. The prosecution claims that the vehicle had been parked beforehand and was accelerated at high speed without leaving any brake marks.

The SUV allegedly struck the woman and then collided with three other parked vehicles before Anila drove away without stopping. The second victim suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene, according to the information provided.

A passerby who witnessed the incident reportedly became suspicious and followed the blue SUV, which was speeding away with extensive damage to its front, before informing police. Officers stopped the vehicle at a Walgreens parking area located about one mile from the scene and arrested Anila. At the time, she was reportedly semi-conscious and had a significant amount of blood on her body. Police said her statements during further questioning were contradictory.

Investigators have also cited what they describe as significant scientific evidence. The missing mobile phone belonging to the San Jose victim was reportedly recovered from Anila’s car. Police also said the shoes shown in the deleted CCTV footage from the murder scene were the same shoes Anila was wearing when she was arrested.

In addition, a crime laboratory examination of blood stains found on Anila’s pants reportedly established through DNA testing that the blood matched that of the woman killed in San Jose.

Anila has maintained in court that she is not guilty. She is represented by Los Banos-based attorney Shawn Mathew George. Her next court hearing has been scheduled for November 17. Anila is currently being held at the Santa Clara County Main Jail under serious charges for which bail is not available, according to the information provided.
